Genara at Work: Federal Employee Layoff Impact Analysis
We created a unique & actionable data set in 7 days.
We tested our tech and strategy against the field on a novel data analysis challenge: understanding the impact of federal job loss on American communities.
Our initial analysis suggests that these job losses are concentrated in middle-class zip codes—places with historically stable employment, high wages, and high voter turnout.
Federal workers are higher paid and longer-serving than workers in other industry sectors. This means that the community and individual impacts of these jobs losses is greater; both in lost wages, but also in social resilience.
How We Did It
Modeling: We combined 4 different data sets to predict where layoffs would happen. We ran the model for the top 25 cities, highlighting zip codes where impact was highest. We built and shared an interactive report to get the word out.
Results: Concept to sharing with our partners took 7 days. The final analysis generated more than 50 million data points. Previously this work would have taken months of consultant time.
